The Farm History
Hippophile Farm was established in 2002 on Madeline Island, as part of the Apostle Islands, on the shores of Lake Superior. It is a first-rate equestrian facility located in La Pointe, Wisconsin. We offer top-notch boarding, training and riding instruction for the beginner through advanced riding in dressage and jumping. During the summer months we offer our kids program. and various clinicians for riders interested in dressage and jumping.
“To a mainlander it may seem somewhat inconvenient to take the island ferry each time you go to ride. To me, it’s a pleasant part of my day in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. It’s part of what makes Hippophile Farm so unique.”
~ Tim, Past HF Client
The Island Setting
Madeline Island is part of the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior. As part of Ashland County, Wisconsin, it was a spiritual center of the Chippewa. The community of La Pointe, located on the western edge of the island was one of the earliest European settlements in the area. It has a population of 302, with a higher population during the summer tourist season. The island can be accessed by the Madeline Island Ferry Line from nearby Bayfield.
Hippophile Farm offers the use of our courtesy vehicle as transport from the ferry dock to the farm for our training clients.
The island offers a variety of activities and adventures: camping, hiking, kayaking, fishing, sailing, museum, historical points, restaurants, arts and crafts, shopping and more.
